Why are professional teams allowed Indian mascots and symbols?

College teams are not. The Cleveland Indians have a garish clown face of an Indian for a symbol. The Washington Redskins -- NFL team of the NATION'S capitol -- are called 'Redskins', which is the N word for Indians. The Atlanta Braves still have that embarring Hollywood music and the tomahawk chop stuff. Why is that? Shouldn't these symbols be toned down at the very least? Or do the Indians not care? Or does anyone care?
