Bought some vintage bags and they stink inside of stale cigarettes! how do i get it out?

how do i get it out? i've rubbed in baby powder, aired them for an afternoon and sprayed odour remover in. one is a small clutch and seems to be much better the other is a larger quilted bag with chains. has anyone got any remedies? they can't be put ina washing machine as they are leather but in the inside can be bathed i suppose. i just dont want my items stinking of fags ;(! help!
