My 13 yrd schnauzer has a splenic nodule?

Well I can say that Ive been down that road and ended up paying payments for a year or so and my dog died anyways.. But she died from the shock of the surgery and like you said, she didn't act sick at all clear up to the last day.. It was a tough deal.. I'd probably tried saving her, but thankfully she didn't have to suffer and that she died from the shock of her surgery... GOOD LUCK
