Why did my gay friend get angry with me?

We were discussing space exploration and the launch today and I said I would like more space exploration than wasting tax money on these government programs for lazy people. And then he said, well what do you want to explore. Well, I said Ur and he totally just went ballistic. Should I call him and apologize? But what did I say that I should be apologizing?
