I love Jesus, but why are Christians so unlike him?

In regards to the poor, people with HIV and illegal immigrants. I see and hear these evangelicals talking very bad things about illegal immigrants - they seem to forget that we are all God's children. I see how Christians blamed HIV on gays and would not go near HIV patients - until recently, I haven't seen the Christian Church do much about HIV. I don't see a lot of work with the poor either. These things are what Jesus would be up in arms to defend, why do modern day Christians not do this? Why are they more concerned with bashing gays, illegals and Muslims?
